No. What this bag holds is a food-contact approval — FDA 21 CFR 177 — which covers migration safety, not end-of-life composting. The PLA/PBAT film will break down under industrial composting conditions, but without a numbered EN 13432, ASTM D6400, BPI or OK Compost certificate we cannot sell it as certified compostable and you should not make that claim to your retail buyer. If a certified-compostable claim is required for your market, we list a separate PLA/PBAT bag that carries EN 13432, BPI, OK Compost Industrial and OK Compost HOME — ask us to quote that alongside this product.
A die-cut vest slot concentrates load on a narrow strip of film that runs over the back of the hand. For light loads at a quick checkout that is fine. For a full weekly grocery bag — 8–12 kg in a large gusseted format — the same narrow strip cuts into the hand after 100 metres of walking. A flexiloop is a continuous loop of the same film, typically 25–30 mm wide, that distributes load across the palm. It is the reason many large supermarket reusable bag programmes moved to flexiloop handles a decade ago. For a disposable bag at this size, it makes a genuine difference to customer comfort.
A flat vest bag at 30 cm wide holds a fixed volume — once filled, the sides cannot expand. The side gusset is a fold of extra film on each side that opens outward when the bag is loaded, increasing the effective width by the gusset depth (typically 11–18 cm). The result is a bag that can carry a large, irregularly shaped grocery load without bursting the side seams or putting stress on the bottom. For checkout use with mixed items — bottles, cartons, loose produce — the gusset is what stops the bag looking and feeling overstuffed.
The 20–25 working days reflect the cylinder engraving time for gravure printing plus film production scheduling. For a plain unprinted bag of stock size, the lead time can come down to 15–20 days. Rush orders are possible on some sizes with a premium; ask us at enquiry stage. If you are planning a seasonal or range-launch programme, giving us 45–60 days from artwork sign-off is the safest approach.
PLA becomes soft above approximately 50–60 °C, and PBAT has limited heat resistance compared with conventional PE. For food at serving temperature (60–80 °C) there is a real risk the bag deforms at the handle or loses seal integrity. This bag is suitable for ambient and chilled food; for hot-food carry-out we would recommend a conventional HDPE or LDPE vest bag instead, or a paper-lined carrier if a plant-based material story matters to you.
