For most commercial matcha products with a 12–24 month shelf life at ambient temperature, VMPET provides adequate moisture and light barrier when the pouch is properly sealed and stored away from direct heat. For ceremonial-grade matcha where colour and flavour degradation over even a few months is commercially significant, or for a product destined for a hot retail environment (Middle East, South-East Asia), we recommend stepping up to a full aluminium foil laminate. We will ask about your product grade, fill weight and target market before confirming the structure rather than defaulting to the lighter-barrier film.
The MOPP/VMPET/PE laminate is built from food-contact grades and we hold FDA 21 CFR 177, which ships with the order. German and other European distributors normally want documentation tied to the specific structure rather than a generic certificate, so for sale into the EU we arrange migration testing at an accredited laboratory — including one you nominate — and issue the declaration against your order. Raise it at enquiry stage and the reports are ready before the production run, not after.
Fine powder in a zipper is a known issue: particles lodge in the zipper track and reduce seal closure over time. We use a wider-track zipper on powder products and recommend a tear notch positioned so the consumer opens the top well above the zipper line, reducing powder migration into the track during dispensing. For very high-value or pharmaceutical-grade products, we can specify a slider zipper or a tin tie closure as a more powder-resistant alternative.
Yes. We can supply a small printed digital sample alongside a gravure cylinder proof (on request) so you can compare colour rendition, resolution and surface finish before committing to the production method. Digital tends to show slightly less tonal depth in large flat colour areas compared to gravure, but the difference is product-dependent. We will be direct about which method suits your artwork.
The MOPP/VMPET/PE laminate is a multi-material structure and is not recyclable in standard consumer film streams — the metallised PET layer makes it incompatible with mono-PE film recycling. The soy-based inks are a genuine sustainability improvement but do not change the end-of-life profile of the laminate itself. We would not support a kerbside-recyclable or compostable claim for this structure. If your brand narrative requires a recyclable pouch for the same product, we supply a mono-PE alternative — we will quote both so you can make an informed decision.
