It depends on your load temperature. If the loaf goes into the bag hot — directly from the oven or cooler tunnel at above 40 °C — micro-perforation is strongly advisable to let residual steam escape and prevent the crust from going soft inside the bag. If your line cools the loaf to near ambient before bagging, a sealed bag is generally fine. Tell us your tunnel exit temperature and we will specify the right vent density.
The wicket format is designed specifically for high-speed auto-baggers; the wire holds each bag open and in position so the machine can insert the loaf without operator assistance. We will ask for your machine make and model to confirm the wicket wire gauge, bag pitch and peel-off force match your line before production.
HDPE produces a stiffer, crinklier bag with a slightly higher clarity and better puncture resistance, which performs well for loaves with hard crusts. LDPE is softer and clings more closely to the loaf shape, giving a tighter presentation for sliced sandwich bread. Both are food-grade; we can supply either or a blend, and will recommend based on your loaf type and packaging machine.
The EN 13432 standard relates to compostability testing under controlled industrial composting conditions. The film in this bag is HDPE or LDPE — standard polyethylene. PE does not biodegrade or compost within EN 13432 timeframes, and we do not put a compostable or biodegradable claim on a bag that has no certificate behind it. The FDA 21 CFR 177 food-contact certificate is the relevant compliance document for this product.
Custom gravure-printed bags take approximately 20–25 working days from artwork approval and deposit to shipment. Stock plain bags in standard sizes ship faster. We recommend placing your first order about 6 weeks before you need the bags on your line to allow time for artwork approval, production and freight.
