We send you the dieline for your chosen size first, so the design is built to the real panel, valve position and zipper line rather than adapted afterwards. You return artwork as AI or PDF with fonts outlined and Pantone references named; we separate it, return a digital proof, and on gravure work a printed proof for colour sign-off. The lead time runs from your approval of that proof, not from the date the files arrive, so getting artwork right early is the single biggest thing you control in the schedule.
A top zipper sits across the top of the pouch and is visible on the front panel — it creates a functional border above the main artwork area. A side zipper is integrated into one of the side gusset panels, leaving the entire front face uninterrupted. For specialty coffee with complex origin-story artwork, the side zipper is worth specifying because it gives the designer full use of the front panel. It is slightly harder to use one-handed but preferred for premium shelf products.
Keep them flat in the original cartons, indoors, dry and away from direct sunlight and strong solvent odours — foil laminates will pick up an aroma from a badly chosen storeroom and pass it to the coffee. If the cartons have been somewhere cold, let them reach room temperature before you open them, because condensation on the sealant face is the most common cause of weak seals on a first run. Do not stack anything heavy on the valve area.
Matte overlaminate shows fewer fingerprints than gloss but is not fingerprint-proof. For counter display or bags that are handled frequently, soft-touch overlaminate repels fingerprints better and adds a premium tactile feel. For bags that ship directly in outer cartons and reach the end buyer sealed, standard matte is sufficient.
No. PET/AL/PE is a mixed-material laminate and is neither compostable nor biodegradable. We do not supply compostability certification for this structure. If a compostable claim matters for your market, we would direct you to a certified compostable structure — the barrier trade-off is significant, and we would supply the EN 13432 or ASTM D6400 test data before you commit.
